How to Get Industrial Straight Line Finish on Stainless Steel Pipe
Industrial Straight Line Metal Finish on Stainless Steel Pipe
You can achieve an industrial straight line finish (#4 appliance, satin, brush, or matte) on stainless steel pipe using a PTX Eco Smart 47002 with a PTX Grinding Belt Roller 47006.
Pre-grinding Stainless Steel Pipe
This step will create the straight line finish. Depending on the level of removal required, there are three different pre-grinding belts you can choose from:
For example, if you want to level welds you can use the 40 grit, and if you want to remove moderate scratches you can use the 60 or 80 grit.
Final Grinding/Industrial Finish on Stainless Steel Pipe
To soften the scratch pattern and create the desired final finish on stainless steel pipe you can use any of the following:
- PTX Fleece Nonwoven Belt 49001 (coarse)
- PTX Fleece Nonwoven Belt 49002 (medium)
- PTX Fleece Nonwoven Belt 49003 (fine)
- PTX Fleece Nonwoven Belt 49007 (superfine)
Application Tips
- Apply a consistent pulling pressure when grinding with the PTX belts (slightly more than the weight of the grinder will generally be sufficient).
- When working on closed pipe constructions the PTX Grinding belts must be cut open, turned inside out, placed around the pipe, and then refastened using the PTX Special Adhesive Tape 49000. Be sure to wrap the tape completely around the outside of the belt, overlapping by one complete revolution to insure belt integrity. The fleece belts feature a practical buttonhole fastening system. For closed pipes, the belt can simply be placed around the pipe and refastened.
- When you pair the PTX Grinding Belt 49080 with the PTX Fleece Belt 49002 it produces a linear finish corresponding to a #4 finish with a grain standard of 150‐180 grit.
- When you pair the PTX Grinding Belt 49120 (120 grit) with the PTX Fleece Belt 49003 it produces a linear finish corresponding to a satin finish with a grain standard of 200‐220 grit.
- If you want to achieve a finer finish use the PTX Fleece Nonwoven Belt 49003 and the 49007.
- If you want to match an existing finish you can vary the tool speed to make fine adjustments.
